Seamounts of the North-East Atlantic

Although there are tens of thousands of seamounts spread throughout the world's oceans, these undersea features are still little-known environments with regard to their biodiversity, their ecology and the short and long-term effects of human impacts.

However, it has become clear in recent years that seamounts host very special ecosystems which are at risk from intensive exploitation of their natural resources.

The EU-funded OASIS project (Oceanic Seamounts: An Integrated Study) aims to provide a holistic, integrated assessment of seamount ecology in the North East Atlantic using two sites as case studies.
