Science and art are cultural activities seeking new knowledge and understanding based on curiosity about the unknown. An artist like Oernulf Opdahl observes nature in a different way from us scientists, and we know from previous expeditions (also the hostorical ones) that having an artist along adds perspective to what we are doing.
Oernulf expressed great interest in the project from the b eginning and asked to come along. He has contributed significantly to the project and his presence during the cruise this summer stimulated discussions among scientists and with him. Basically it was fun!!
